Mandy and Mike’s Wedding!!!

A few weeks ago, I photographed Mandy and Mike’s lovely wedding.  The ceremony took place at the Christ the King Catholic Church and the reception at Scott Conference Center!  Both Mandy and Mike looked amazing and you could see the joy on their faces all day!

Nicole Johnson and her wonderful staff at the Scott Conference Center made sure that everything went perfectly as usual and it really made our job easier!  Here are a few highlights from the day…

Congrats again guys!!

Melanie and Wes’s Wedding!!!

A couple weeks ago, I photographed Melanie and Wes’s wonderful wedding at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Omaha and Champions Run Country Club for the reception.  It is one of my favorite venues as it is simply gorgeous everywhere you look!  Both Melanie and Wes looked amazing and were all smiles all day! (Which made the photos look amazing!)

We timed everything out beautifully and got some really pretty light for portraits after the wedding at Champions Run (which always makes me happy!)

Here are some highlights from the day!

Alison and Andrew’s Wedding!!!

A couple of weeks ago I photographed the wonderful wedding of Alison and Andrew at Boys Town Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.  After the ceremony we went to the lake in Boys Town and got a lot of great shots.  Then onto the Ackerhurst Dairy Barn for the reception.  What a barn!  I’ve never been there before for a wedding reception and I’m glad I finally did.  It’s big and of course red.  Alison told me her wedding was going to be the last wedding they are doing at the barn.

A great couple and a fun wedding party!   We got a ton of great shots as well, so here are a few highlights…

Warren Buffett Event!

This is the third year I’ve done this event.  It is lots of fun.  Mr. Buffett has business school students from all over the world come to Omaha and meet with him for a few days.  The college students tour some of his companies such as Nebraska Furniture Mart, Borsheims and Berkshire Hathaway.  They have a question and answer session with him and then he takes eveyone to lunch at Piccolo Petes Steak House in South side Omaha.  Really a wonderful place to eat.  It’s not where you would think a Billionaire would hang out either.  One of Mr. Buffett’s favs is rootbeer floats which he buys for everyone.

Check out the photos with the students.  Like you have  never seen Warren Buffett before.  The Students are from the University of Arizona Business School.  A fun bunch to spend the afternoon with!

Check out the Tebow pose!

Katie and Patrick’s Wedding!!!

This was my last wedding to photograph for 2011. I photographed the wonderful wedding of Katie and Patrick at Rockbrook United Methodist Church and then downtown Omaha at the beautiful Durham Heritage Museum. Katie and Patrick looked amazing and are truly one of the nicest couples I have ever worked with!! Both are in the Navy and both have their wings. We got a ton of great shots as well, so here are a few highlights…

It was good to also work with my good friends Steve Bergeron of Bandstand Music and Donna Hultman (Cameo Designs by Donna). Donna’s cakes are the best!

Congrats again Katie and Patrick!!

Michelangelo’s LA PIETA

In St. Cecilia Cathedral here in Omaha for a short time is a display of the full scale reproduction of Michelangelo’s LA PIET’A. www.LaPieta.com

It is one of the greatest sculptures ever created and after seeing it up close (this was a identical reproduction from the same mould) you see why. It was the only sculpture ever signed by Michelangelo. It was kind of funny because I was looking for his signature and could not find it. I asked my wife where did he sign it at and I was looking in the bottom corners looking for it. But right out in front of me St. Mary is wearing this strap going across the front of her where Michelangelo signed it in big bold letters.

Up close the detail in this sculpture is amazing carved in marble. The surface of the marble shines prefect under the lighting because of the way it is finished and polished. It is so hard to believe that this was created almost 500 years ago. Imagine the tools he used to carve marble back then.

LaPieta means Pity. It was made for a tomb I think. The original sculpture is in St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican (Rome). In 1972 some crazy person went up to the original sculpture and took a hammer to it damaging it. During the reconstruction of the original sculpture they made a mould of it to produce this reproduction of it that I saw. Now the one in Rome is behind bullet proof glass from a distance. Why in the world would someone do something like that? It is so crazy this sculpture was just fine for 450 or so years and then someone in recent days try to destroy it. Go figure?

Anyway I’ve never seen up close Michelangelo’s work before. I’m glad I finally did. Probably the greatest artist ever.

Here is my version of La Pieta. I photographed it this morning. It was nice because I was the only one there and could move around it.
